Roots in Tradition
About us
Ria Popat founded MVP to bring together her lifelong love of South Asian dance and her passion for learning, teaching, and cultural expression. With over seven years of experience teaching both academic subjects and dance, she blends technique with connection to movement.
Her dance journey has taken her through a wide range of styles and stages, including work with Karan Pangali, the Cassio Operatic Society, Shiamak Davar’s Special Potential Batch, Raas Rebellion, and Garba Flow. Alongside her dance training, Ria has trained to diploma-level in classical music, which deepens her understanding of rhythm and expression.
At the heart of her practice is Garba - her true artistic home. Through MVP, Ria aims to create a space for others to experience the joy, community, and cultural richness that South Asian arts offer.
You’ll rarely catch her without a pair of jhumkas on. It's her way of weaving South Asian identity into everyday life. For Ria, dance is more than a performance; it’s a celebration of connection to something bigger.
